- Claim leadership: available if the squad has no leader and you’re the highest-ranked member.
Step-by-Step Tutorial
1) Accessing the Squad Interface
- Press F6 to open your Combine PDA.
- Navigate to the PTS tab (for CP) or the SQUADS tab (for OTA).
2) Creating a Squad
- Click the CREATE PTS/SQUAD button.
- If the button is grayed out, one of the following applies:
• Your rank is too low, or
• The maximum number of squads for your team has been reached.
3) Joining or Leaving a Squad
- Each squad appears as a collapsible header in the interface. Use:
- JOIN – to enter a squad.
- LEAVE – to leave your current squad.
- If JOIN is disabled, the squad is full, you are already in one, or you’re currently dead.
4) Taking Command (CLAIM)
- If a squad has no leader, a CLAIM button appears on its header.
- Click CLAIM to become the leader (only the highest-ranked player in the squad can do this).
5) Squad Leader Tools
- Manage Members: as the leader, you can see a KICK button next to each player’s name in your squad.
- Disband Squad: right-click your squad’s header → DISBAND (a confirmation will appear).
- Squad Objective: set a short message (~85 characters) visible to all members in the OBJECTIVE field.
- Requests (REQUESTS):
Send reinforcement or assistance requests to other squads. - Orders (ORDERS) – for CP officers DvL rank and above:
• Custom order: type and send a custom instruction.
• Block inspection: open a menu to assign an apartment block inspection.
• Some servers may also allow waypoints or visual markers via this system.
Additional PDA Tabs
UTIL (Utilities)
- The UTIL tab gives access to service-related tools and administrative actions for field units.
- Available options vary with your rank:
- Medical Request: call for medical assistance (available when your health ≤ 90).
- Set Objective: high-ranking CP (DCO+) can broadcast operational objectives visible to all units.
- Inspection Tools: for officers performing citizen or block inspections.
- Prison Management: if near a terminal, allows detaining or releasing prisoners.
- Dispatch Options: senior officers (CMD/DCO) can manage city-wide orders or open reports.
- In short, UTIL is your multifunctional panel for Combine administrative actions.
BOL (Be On the Lookout)
- The BOL tab lists all citizens currently wanted or under surveillance.
- Each entry displays:
- Citizen’s name and ID.
- Assigned reason for the BOL (crime or suspicion).
- Status: Active or Cleared.
- Last known sector (if available).
- Senior ranks (DCO+, CMD, EOW+) can:
- Issue a new BOL entry.
- Clear or remove an existing one.
- Update reasons or details for investigation follow-ups.
- Use BOLs to coordinate arrests, checkpoints, or surveillance between squads and divisions.
Troubleshooting & Tips
- Nothing happens when clicking: make sure you are alive and in a CP or OTA team.
- Cannot create a squad: your rank is too low (below I1/EOW) or the squad limit has been reached.
- JOIN button grayed out: the squad is full (3 CP or 4 OTA) or you’re already part of one.
- Cannot claim leadership: there is already a leader, or you’re not the highest-ranked member.
Roleplay Guidelines
- Civil Protection (CP): squads are used for urban patrols, code responses, and maintaining city order.
- OTA (Overwatch): squads are tactical strike units deployed in critical events such as riots, uprisings, or outland pursuits.
This guide is based on the internal PDA and Squad system from the dispatch plugin in impulse: HL2RP. It includes the F6 interface, rank-based restrictions, squad size limits, and leader control functions defined in the gamemode scripts.
